Your rising sign
The lagna is the sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth. It changes roughly every two hours, so the birth time matters.
- Exact ascendant degree
- Lagna nakshatra and lord
- First-house planets
Calculate your lagna
Use the birth time on your certificate if you have it.
Why birth time changes everything
The rising sign moves through all twelve signs in a day. A birth time that is forty minutes out can move the ascendant, the house cusps and every planetary house placement. This is why Vedic astrology asks for a time, not just a date.
If your time is unknown, AstroYoda uses noon and clearly labels the chart as time-sensitive. Treat the rising sign in that case as provisional.
The rising sign describes how you meet the world; the Moon describes emotional needs. Many people relate more immediately to their Moon, then discover the lagna over time.
